CAPRA SCOUT for Substation Inspection
CAPRA’s substation inspection solution is built around the CAPRA mobile robot platform and an energy robotics payload for automated inspection of indoor and outdoor electrical infrastructure. The platform is described as modular and IP65-rated for wet and dusty environments, while the inspection payload uses LiDAR and a thermal camera to capture asset data for AI-based anomaly detection and action generation; the wider system also includes cloud-based fleet management and analytics.
In addition, the robot integrates a multi-sensor navigation system combining VSLAM-based vision, industrial radar, GNSS with RTK, IMU, and odometry data to enable precise localization and autonomous operation across both indoor and outdoor environments. These sensors support advanced path planning, obstacle detection, and real-time environmental mapping, while also enabling sensor fusion through probabilistic filtering for reliable decision-making in dynamic conditions. The robot connects to the Smart City infrastructure to generate reports on the condition of paths and cycle ways.
From an educational perspective, the platform demonstrates key robotics concepts such as multi-modal perception, autonomous navigation, AI-driven inspection, and real-time data analytics, making it a strong example of applied field robotics and smart infrastructure monitoring systems.
